3.  Make sure the TIMER is set to the OFF position.
4.  With the charger unplugged, connect to the battery:
a.  Attach the red charger clamp to the 
POSITIVE (POS., P, +) battery terminal.
b.  Attach at least a 24-inch, 6-gauge insulated battery cable to the negative (–) battery 
terminal. Then connect the black charger clamp to the free end of the battery cable.
5.  Set the RATE/VOLTAGE CONTROL to the proper setting.
6.  Plug in the charger.
7.  Set the TIMER to the proper setting.
 
CAUTION: MONITOR THE BATTERY FOR LEAkING FLUID OR ExCESSIVE HEAT THAT 
COULD DAMAGE THE BATTERY. IF THE BATTERY GETS TOO HOT OR SPEWS FLUID,  
REDUCE THE CHARGING RATE OR REPLACE THE BATTERY.
To start the vehicle to drive to a service location:
BOOST CHARGE
.  Follow the safety precautions and instructions on the top of the charger or in the manual 
concerning in-vehicle charging.
2.  Set the TIMER to the OFF position.
3.  With the charger unplugged, connect to the battery:
a.  Attach the red charger clamp to the 
POSITIVE (POS., P, +) battery terminal.
b.  Attach the black charger clamp to the vehicle chassis or engine block, away from 
the battery.
4.  Set the RATE/VOLTAGE CONTROL to the BOOST CHARGE rating.
5.  Plug in the charger.
6.  Turn the TIMER to the 5 minute mark or lower. 
NOTE: Most chargers can only supply boost current for a short time and will shut down if 
time is exceeded. (See the front label of your charger for ON/OFF times)

REDUCE THE CHARGING RATE OR REPLACE THE BATTERY.
7.  With the TIMER in the OFF position, unplug the charger.
8.  Disconnect the charger clamps and try to start the vehicle. If the vehicle will not start, repeat 
the process once more. If the vehicle still will not start, use the ENGINE START feature 
detailed below or replace the battery.
