The Alligator
®
 Anchor for concrete installation.
While the anchor is 1 3/16" long before insertion, it stretches a full 2" length inside the hole
and under the pressure of the concrete. Since the alligator
has circular cross section, this means you have the full force exerted by
the screw evenly applied along a 2" circular shape, for full compressive
holding power along virtually the entire length of our #14 2 1/4" wood screw
(supplied with Peerless mounts).
Other solid wall expansion anchors transmit compressive force only at certain points along
the length of the anchor. Furthermore, they tend to have ridges, lumps, and bumps along
their surface, allowing for extreme differences in the pressure exerted at different points.
The Alligator anchor, with its solid form, extrudes and compresses all the plastic into the screw threads and outwardly against and into
the wall of the hole. Further, because the Alligator is made of a specially formulated polypropylene, the resulting compressed cylinder
fully conforms to, and bonds to the contours of the hole and the screw. This is how the Alligator Anchor archives maximum holding
power.
In Peerless’ own laboratory tests, with a 2" engagement between our #14 wood screw and the Alligator Anchor, we were able to
achieve 2000 lbs. of tensile strength, per screw, in solid concrete.
NOTE: If there is material covering the concrete such as plaster or drywall the
installer must counter bore the surface covering so that the anchor can be
fully seated against the solid concrete material. The wall plate will be
placed over the surface covering and the wood screws inserted into the alligator anchor. A minimum of 2" of the wood screw should be
inside of the concrete. The supplied wood screws are 2 1/2" long therefore the surface material including the wall plate, should not be
more than 1/4" thick to ensure
proper placement. Otherwise, the installer would need to provide an
alternative screw of adequate length and structural characteristics.
