Centralized ISDN Access for
All PCs in the LAN
Network Distributed ISDN for Windows
®
NT (NDI)
shares and manages ISDN controllers in the
server for use throughout the network. NDI lets
LAN users take advantage of the numerous possi-
bilities offered by ISDN-based PC communications,
such as fax transmission straight out of office
applica
tions, ISDN file transfer between partner
companies
, or on-line services that provide e-mail
or electronic banking. NDI manages the available
ISDN channels and allocates them to users dynam-
ically
— on demand. In this way, NDI significantly
reduces
the initial investment and operating costs
for PC ISDN communications in the LAN. Further-
more, NDI provides user-level administration and
monitoring of ISDN resources, ensuring more
security in the network.
Flexibility and Efficiency
As a Windows system service, NDI provides the
CAPI 2.0 application interface to all workstations
in the LAN. From the user’s point of view, this
means that “anything goes”: all commercially
available applications for ISDN and CAPI are ready
for use, for example AVM FRITZ! or access soft-
ware of Internet service providers like AOL. Even
applications without built-in ISDN or CAPI support
can make use of ISDN through NDI by means of
AVM’s CAPI port technology. Internet access over
ISDN, for example, is supported by NDI using
Microsoft Dial-up Networking on the Windows
workstation. ISDN applications can use all the
CAPI services that an active ISDN controller sup-
ports without restriction — for data, voice, video
or fax connections. ISDN channel bundling is also
supported.
Simple Handling
Installation and operation of the Windows NT-
based ISDN service NDI could not be simpler.
Administrators are supplied with comprehensive
information on the current use of the ISDN con-
trollers, even through a Web browser if desired.
All connection and charge information can be
recorded and analyzed by user or as a daily
summary. For administrators who want maximum
security, NDI offers user-level rights and res-
trictions on ISDN use and costs. Thus NDI can
automatically block ISDN access as soon as a
specified cost limit, such as
10 on a given day,
has been reached.
ISDN Services for NT Networks create a scalable, flexible combination of ISDN/ADSL and PC
network. In harmony with one another, the Windows
®
Server 2003/XP/2000/NT 4.0 applications
for active ISDN controllers meet the connectivity demands of today and tomorrow.
