Cisco Unified Application Server 2.4
This data sheet provides an overview of features and ordering information for the Cisco
®
Unified Application Server, an application server for converged voice, video, and data
applications.
Cisco
Unified Communications is a comprehensive IP communications system of voice, video,
data, and mobility products and applications. It enables more effective, more secure, more
personal communications that directly affect both sales and profitability. It brings people together
by enabling a new way of communicating—where your business moves with you, security is
everywhere, and information is always available...whenever and wherever it is needed. Cisco
Unified Communications is part of an integrated solution that includes network infrastructure,
security, mobility, network management products, lifecycle services, flexible deployment and
outsourced management options, end-user and partner financing packages, and third-party
communications applications.
Product Overview
Part of the Cisco Unified Application Environment, the Cisco Unified Application Server is an
application server for converged voice, video, and data applications. It is the first integrated, end-
to-end runtime and development platform for unified communications applications.
The Cisco Unified Application Server abstracts the complexity of telephony protocols, separates
application logic from core call routing to protect Cisco Unified Communications Manager (formerly
known as Cisco Unified CallManager), and provides a standard way to manage all of an
organization’s unified communications applications.
As part of the Cisco Unified Application Environment, the Cisco Unified Application Server
facilitates rapid development, reliable execution, and automated management of unified
communications applications that converge voice and video with enterprise applications and data.
Organizations can use these new converged applications to improve communications, transform
business processes, and create competitive advantage.
Key Features and Benefits
●
Extensible plug-in framework—The Cisco Unified Application Server offers an extensible
plug-in framework that shields developers from the complexity of voice technology by
abstracting a wide variety of call control and other telephony protocols, as well as popular
data protocols and APIs. The plug-in framework reduces developer training and learning
time and allows flexibility in protocol choice at deployment. Cisco customers and partners
can easily develop plug-ins for any industry-standard or proprietary protocol or API required
for application development.
●
Virtual machine layer—The Cisco Unified Application Server provides a virtual machine layer that
clearly separates application logic from core call routing and manages calls from applications to
Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The virtual machine protects Cisco Unified
Communications Manager from immature protocol defects and developer threats caused by
inexperience or accidents. The virtual machine also protects applications from each other.
