Turning OIS Off/On
Turning Face Detection On/Off
Using the Optical 
Image Stabilizer (OIS)
OIS corrects camera movement 
automatically.

During recording pause, press 
MENU
.

Select “Camera Functions 
Setup”  
“OIS”  
“On”/“Off”

Press the confirmation button 
to confirm, then MENU to end.
When the function is turned On, 
” appears in the LCD 
monitor (p.31).
• OIS is retained in memory 
even when the power is turned 
off.
• If “Off” is selected, be sure to 
return the setting to “On” 
afterwards, if you do not 
normally use a tripod, etc.
Notes
• It may be difficult to perform this 
setting in dark places. Also if the 
zoom bar is positioned in the digital 
range (p.32), you may not be able to 
set the white balance. If white balance 
settings cannot be accomplished, 
” will continue to flash.
• If the “Set” settings are not completed 
within a few moments, the camcorder 
returns to recording pause mode and 
” flashes in the LCD monitor. 
Redo the settings from step 1.

Using the Face Detection
Face Detection automatically 
recognizes up to five faces and shows 
them in green frames.

• Face Detection is retained in 
memory even when the power 
is turned off.
• Recording with digital zoom 
disables Face Detection even if 
it is set to “On”. When recording 
with digital zoom (p.44), “

appears in the LCD monitor. 
When you return the zoom to the 
optical range, “
” appears in 
the LCD monitor and Face 
Detection becomes active. (You 
can set Face Detection to “ON”/
“OFF” while the zoom bar is 
positioned in the digital range.)
Notes
• When OIS is active, there will be a 
slight divergence between the actual 
camera and the on-screen movements.
• Even if OIS is turned On, the camera 
movement may not be corrected if the 
movement is too excessive.
We recommend you stabilize the 
camcorder using both hands and 
support your arms against your body 
when recording.
• OIS may not function correctly when 
a tele-conversion lens or wide-
conversion lens is used.
• We recommend turning OIS Off 
when you position the camcorder on a 
table or use a tripod when recording.
