You must restore the system unit serial number to its
original number when the LCD module or inverter is
replaced.

To restore the system unit serial number, do the following:

1. Install the ThinkPad CE Utility Diskette and restart the

computer.

2. Select 3. VPD Data Utility from the main menu.

3. Select 1. Read VPD data to verify the system unit

serial number displayed.

4. If it is incorrect, select 2. Write VPD data and then

select 2. Write BoxSerial number to type the correct
serial number on the panel.

1. Do not power-off the computer during the restoration

process.

2. The serial number label is attached to the bottom of

the computer.

To restore the planar serial number after you have
replaced the system board, LCD module or LCD inverter,
do the following:

1. Install the ThinkPad CE Utility Diskette and restart the

computer.

2. Select 3. VPD Data Utility from the main menu.

3. Select 1. Read VPD data to verify the planar serial

number displayed.

4. If it is incorrect, select 2. Write VPD data and then

select 2. Write BoxSerial number to type the correct
serial number on the panel.

The system is equipped with sensors to protect against
system overheating. By setting system and processor
thermal thresholds, the system can turn on the cooling fan,
slows sown, stop the CPU or shut down automatically
when temperatures reach the defined threshold
parameters.

System experiencing frequent auto sensor shutdown may
need to reset the thermal sensor threshold and execute
the fan test to ensure the normal operation of the cooling
fan.

Follow the steps below to set thermal threshold:

1. Install the ThinkPad CE Utility Diskette and restart the

computer.

2. Select 2. Thermal Sensor Utility from the main menu.
