Each GPS satellite in space has
a specific number that identifies
it. The numbers of several GPS
satellites appear on the circular
graphic in the middle of the page.
The number corresponds to the
current position of that satellite in
space. Each highlighted number
on the graphic corresponds to a
satellite from which the Edge is
currently receiving signals. The
black bars under the graphic
represent the strength of each
satellite signal received (the
number of the satellite appears
below each bar).
About GPS
The Global Positioning System
(GPS) is a satellite-based
navigation system made up of a
network of 24 satellites placed
into orbit by the United States
Department of Defense. GPS
was originally intended for military
applications, but in the 1980s,
the government made the system
available for civilian use. GPS
works in any weather conditions,
anywhere in the world, 24 hours
a day. There are no subscription
fees or setup charges to use
GPS.
