Control Characters
All messages must contain a control character. A control character is a bit pattern included in an
outbound message that determines how a DOS terminal reacts to a message. Certain control
characters require an additional character called an N/EF character. Inbound messages also
contain control characters indicating whether a message is a form or non-form message and if a
sequence number is included.
Outbound Messages
Control characters may perform the following functions in outbound messages:
•  indicate whether it is a form or non-form.
•  indicate whether the message is forced or unforced.
•  activate multiple beeps at the DOS terminal.
•  change the auto transmit buffer length.
•  indicate expanded function.
•  enable barcode input.
•  enable auxiliary input.
