Specifying Unprotected Fields on a Form
Specify the unprotected character positions by using field control characters that specify fields as
unprotected to allow operators to enter data into certain fields on a form. Refer to the following
sections for keys and examples.

In addition, the field control characters are used to restrict the type of data (numeric, alpha,
alphanumeric, etc.) the operator can enter into individual character positions of the unprotected
fields.

The restriction as to the type of data applies only to keyboard entered data. Any data that is
entered using barcode scanners or through an RS-232 port is entered without regard to the coded
data type restriction, except host-only field control which Aux/BC cannot enter data into.

These characters (when using the default US ASCII keyset) identify unprotected fields of the
form and control the type of data entry permitted in each character position. All protected field (or
character) types, except the left bracket, also accept the SPACE character. The characters are
slightly different when using Swedish keysets or German keysets. The field control characters
may be mixed in any order within a field.

Default Unprotected Coding Characters
When the LDS Plus SwedishFldCntrl and GermanFldCntrl are set to No, the unprotected
character positions of a form are identified by coding characters from the following list. The host
application programmer must code these characters into the original form that is sent to the
terminal. The terminal software converts these characters to underscores for operator viewing.
