The unit displays good overall ease of use from the control panel and well-designed print driv-

ers. Additionally, the print controller offers users tremendous flexibility with standard PCL 5e, 

PCL 6, Mini and Ricoh’s Refined Print Command Stream (RPCS) drivers, and an optional Adobe 

PostScript  3  driver.  The  unit’s  Extended  Security  function  provides  users  with  a  more  secure 

environment, protecting data residing in the device’s memory. In addition, the unit offers standard 

USB 2.0 and Ethernet connectivity, as well as IEEE 1284 (parallel), IEEE 1394, IEEE 802.11b 

and Bluetooth (wireless) options. Thus users do not have to plug into a network in order to use 

the unit. Users can take their laptops and/or PDA to conference rooms, or enable visiting users to 

print to the unit as well.

Ricoh has also achieved ISO 14001 Certification, which is a rigorous, internationally recognized 

standard that defines the framework by which companies develop their environmental manage-

ment  systems,  at  all  of  its  manufacturing  plants  worldwide  and  most  of  its  non-manufacturing 

facilities. Through its company-wide Environmental Management System (EMS), Ricoh has inte-

grated environmental management practices into all aspects of its business, including planning, 

development, design, procurement and production, sales, logistics, use, recycling and disposal. In 

addition, the company’s equipment de-manufacturing program enables 95% of the material content 

from equipment that has reached the end of its useful service life to be recovered. Further, the unit 

warms up from a cold start in 30 seconds, increasing efficiency and productivity, as well as reduc-

ing electricity usage so that users save both energy and money. 

Advantages

Shortcomings

•

 

More cumbersome procedure for adjusting paper drawers than with some competitive models tested.

•

 

Drum is partially exposed in the misfeed area, leaving it susceptible to damage when users are clearing mis-

feeds.
