Characteristics of Digital Cameras
In extremely rare instances, unusual characters may appear in the monitor and the 
camera may stop functioning. In most cases, this phenomenon is caused by a 
strong external static charge. Turn the camera off, remove and replace the battery, 
then turn the camera on again. In the event of continued malfunction, contact 
your retailer or Nikon-authorized service representative. Note that disconnecting 
the power source as described above may result in the loss of any data not saved 
to internal memory or the memory card at the time the problem occurred. Data 
already saved will not be affected.
Shooting Issues
Camera becomes hot.
The camera may become hot when shooting 
movies for an extended period of time or when 
the camera is used in a hot area; this is not a 
malfunction.

Cannot switch to shooting 
mode.
Disconnect HDMI cable or USB cable.
No image captured when 
the shutter-release button 
is pressed.
• When camera is in playback mode, press the A 
button, the shutter-release button, or the 
(
e movie-record) button.
• When menus are displayed, press the 
button.
• Battery is exhausted.
• When flash lamp blinks, flash is charging.
Camera cannot focus.
• Subject is too close. Try shooting using macro 
mode, or the Scene auto selector or Close-up 
scene modes.
• The intended subject is one with which 
autofocus does not perform well.
• Set AF assist in the setup menu to Auto.
• Turn camera off and then on again.
