Using the Management Console 
The Welcome screen is displayed automatically when you connect to the Switch Module 
and Remote Module using a serial cable. You must make sure that your terminal window 
is sized so that you can see the border of # symbols around the contents. 
Press any key to enter the console menu system. Menu options are selected using the PC 
cursor keys: use the up and down keys to move within a menu or list of options, use the 
left and right keys to return to a higher level menu or to access sub-menus (as described 
in the Command Keys section on the next page). 
 
The Console Interface 
A typical screen from the console interface is shown in Figure 4 below.

1.  Menu Location - Your current location within the menu system – in the example, you 
are in the Configuration menu on the Switch Module. 
2.  Unit Name - Typically used to identify the unit by its location (user configurable). 
3.  Software Version - The version of software currently installed. 
4.  Menu List - The options available within the current menu. The asterisk indicates 
your current location (“Port” is highlighted in Figure 4, for example). 
5.  Data Entry Window - The area of the screen where configuration details are entered. 
In this example, this is the Port configuration menu.  
6.  Feature Information - A short description and/or brief instructions on the current 
menu item.  
7.  Log - An area that displays the four most recent lines from the log. Primarily used for 
trouble shooting. A customer support representative will instruct the Administrator on 
the use of this feature should the need arise. 
8.  System Status - Power indication message. 
9.  Modem Status – Provides connect status of the Modem during connection attempts 
10.  Port Status – Provides live information on the status of the individual ports.
