Maintaining the Library
Adding New Drives
Starting with BlueScale10.4.0, IBM LTO-4 tape drives must be using firmware version
8940 or above. This drive firmware level requires drive sled (DCM) firmware version
3.16, which is included in the BlueScale10.4.0 and later firmware packages. LTO-4
drives running firmware versions earlier 8940 are not compatible with
pre-BlueScale10.4.0 firmware.
Compatibility occurs when you:
ƒ install a new LTO-4 drive running firmware version 8940 or above in a library
running BlueScale10.4.0 or later.
ƒ upgrade your library to BlueScale 10.4.0, and then upgrade your existing LTO-4
drives to firmware version 8940.
Incompatibility occurs when you:
ƒ upgrade your existing LT0-4 drive to firmware version 8940 or above and then
install it in a library running pre-BlueScale10.4.0 firmware. Drives running firmware
version 8940 or above are not compatible with BlueScale versions earlier than 10.4.0.
ƒ seat a new LTO-4 Fibre Channel running firmware version 8940 or above and
update the drive sled (DCM) portion of the pre-BlueScale10.4.0 firmware to
version 3.16. Because the drive sled firmware version 3.16 is present, the drive is
able to communicate, but the pre-10.4.0 library firmware detects a mismatch
between the firmware versions and displays a firmware mismatch message.
To ensure compatibility, upgrade your library to BlueScale10.4.0. If you are unable
upgrade to BlueScale10.4.0 at this time, you can ignore the firmware version mismatch
message until you can schedule time to upgrade the library to BlueScale10.4.0 or later.
Troubleshooting the Library
AutoSupport User
The default AutoSupport user (autosupport@spectralogic.com) is dedicated to opening
support tickets. It cannot receive auto-generated messages. Any configuration settings
that send messages to the default AutoSupport user are deleted unless specifically
requested by SpectraGuard support.
Caution
DO NOT try to install earlier releases of the drive firmware or
the drive sled firmware in an attempt to make the drive and
library firmware levels match. This action breaks the drive’s
ability to communicate with the library, and renders the drive
inoperable. You will have to obtain a replacement drive from
Spectra Logic.
