Chapter 5 – Partitioning and Connecting to a Host

In this mode, the Exception Bit is set on any storage slots that contain a tape that has
been logically exported. In addition, the Access Bit on those slots are cleared (so
access is not allowed by the backup software). When the tapes are physically ejected
from the front panel, the Exception Bit is cleared and the Access Bit is set.

Queued Eject Mode
In Queued Eject Mode, when an RES is issued the partition responds showing that it
has only one E/E slot. This slot is shown as export-only, and it always accessible and
empty. It works identically to the “virtual” E/E slot in Shared Mode.

Because there are NO E/E slots that are Import-Enabled, the only way to import tapes
into a partition is to use the move queues or “bulk load” command from the front
panel of the library. Once the tapes have been moved into the storage slots, a re-
inventory of the partition must be forced from the backup software to maintain the
integrity of the inventory.

The library reports a single E/E slot:
As with Shared Mode, the Exception Bit is set on any storage slots that contain a tape
that has been logically exported. In addition, the Access Bit on those slots is cleared
(so access is not allowed by the backup software). When an operator physically
removes tapes from the partition – by using the “Eject Queued Tapes” button on the
front panel – the tapes are physically moved to the eight E/E slots, and the Exception
Bit is cleared from the source slots, the Exception Bit is cleared.
