Using Media Lifecycle Management
After you enable Media Lifecycle Management (see Configuring Media Lifecycle
Management on page 50) and load Spectra Logic Certified MLM media and cleaning
cartridges into the library, BlueScale MLM writes the cartridge bar code information
and other information about the library to the cartridge’s memory chip and to the
library’s MLM database. You can then use BlueScale MLM to monitor the health of the
cartridges and generate a variety reports. If desired, you can save the reports to a USB
storage device or email them to a previously configured mail user.

In addition to generating reports, the MLM feature displays a Filled Capacity bar graph
on the General Status screen (Figure 17). This graph shows you the remaining
uncompressed storage capacity for the MLM-compatible media in the entire library or
in a specific partition. Click on Filled Capacity bar graph to view the Media Lifecycle
Management Report screen (Figure 18 on page 58).
