Whenever you update your library firmware, confirm that your drives are

Backing Up the Spectra Library Metadata
To ensure the availability of your library and encrypted data, protect
library metadata by following the procedures described in this section.

Before upgrading drive firmware, make sure that your library is idle and that no
tapes are loaded in the tape drives. Attempting to update the firmware while the
library is busy or with tapes in the tape drives may result in failed backup jobs and/
