Conclusion
Our survey is a strong indicator for the real-time need and expectation of VMS functionality among a wide 
selection of markets and industries. Concerns over cost, security, and delivery flexibility are ongoing, and 
many have been imported from customers’ experiences with traditional service delivery.
Many business customers sense that they should not “stand pat” with service providers that do not provide 
the range of services and innovation that virtualized connectivity promises. As they migrate to a VMS 
solution, most customers can—and will—expect to deploy services under controlled conditions based on 
internal preferences. If the current service provider does not offer the flexibility and opportunity of VMS, 
more businesses will seek competitors that do.
The market for VMS demonstrates robust growth potential, but providers should expect a shift in their 
relationships with customers. Self-service portals, “try and buy” conditions, and quicker service are strong 
preferences in all the markets we surveyed.
Virtualized network functions will have the opportunity to spread throughout a wide variety of markets 
and verticals. And although pricing models might be revised, there remains the strong potential to reap 
the benefits of add-on services and premiums for VMS benefits. The migration to virtualized network 
functionality provides clear opportunities for both providers and customers.
