15  Choose one of the following options: 

 

If your Alarm Manager client PC is on the same subnet as the Alarm 

Manager server, go to Starting the Alarm Manager Client Software (on page 

65). 

 

If your Alarm Manager client PC is not on the same subnet as the Alarm 

Manager server and you want to access the Alarm Manager server by server 

name, follow these instructions. 
a  Open the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file in the Windows 

Wordpad utility. 

b  Locate the following line: 

localhost 

c  Beneath the line you located in step b), insert the following line: 

###.###.###.### emshost 
Notes:     

 

Substitute the IP address of the Alarm Manager server for 

###.###.###.###. 

 

Substitute the hostname of the Alarm Manager server for emshost. 

d  Save and close the \hosts file. 

e  Go to 

Starting the Alarm Manager Client Software (on page 65). 

 

If your Alarm Manager client PC is not on the same subnet as the Alarm 

Manager server and you want to access the Alarm Manager server by IP 

address, go to Starting the Alarm Manager Client Software (on page 65). 
Note:  You will configure the Alarm Manager client PC for accessing the 

Alarm Manager server by IP address in the following procedure.
