Drag selected PDF or Adobe Illustrator layers or objects into your Photoshop document.

Note: To find out whether you are looking at a Smart Object thumbnail or a layer thumbnail in the Layers palette,
position the cursor over the thumbnail to see the tool tip. You can also look for a small Smart Object icon

To edit the source contents of a Smart Object
Smart Objects let you edit their source contents. When making edits, the source content file is opened in either
Photoshop (if the content is raster data or a camera raw file) or Adobe Illustrator (if the content is vector PDF or EPS
data).

Editing Smart Objects in Photoshop works much as it does with Smart Objects in GoLive, and Symbols and
Envelopes in Illustrator. When the source content file is updated and saved, the edits appear in all instances of the
Smart Object in the Photoshop document.

Select the Smart Object from the Layers palette, and do one of the following:

Choose Layer > Smart Objects > Edit Contents.
•
Double-click the Smart Objects thumbnail in the Layers palette.
A dialog box opens, reminding you to save any changes you make to the source content file.

Click OK to close the dialog box.
The Smart Object opens with all its associated layers.

Make your edits to source content (child) file.

Choose File > Save to commit the changes. You can also close the source content file.

Return to the main (parent) Photoshop document containing the Smart Object. All instances of the Smart Object
have been updated.
