User Guide
To delete image maps (ImageReady)
❖
Do one of the following:
Select the image map area and press the Backspace key or the Delete key.
Select the image map area and choose Delete Image Map Areas from the Image Map palette menu.
Select the image map in the Web Content palette and drag it to the Delete icon.
Select a number of image maps with the Image Map Select tool. Either right-click (Windows) or Control-click
(Mac OS) while the cursor is in one of the image maps. This brings up the context menu for image maps. Select
Delete Image Map Areas.
Client-side and server-side image maps (ImageReady)
ImageReady can create client-side and server-side image maps. In client-side image maps, the links are interpreted
by the browser itself. In server-side image maps, the links are interpreted by the server. Because client-side image
maps don’t need to contact the server to function, they are often significantly faster to navigate. By default,
ImageReady saves image maps as client-side image maps.
Important: Server-side image maps do not work in images that have multiple slices.
You select an image map type in the Output Settings dialog box. If you select a server-side image map, ImageReady
generates a separate map file based on the server option you select. However, you’ll need to update the path to the
map file in your HTML file.

Previewing an image in a browser
To get an idea of how an optimized image will look in a web page, you can preview the image in any browser installed
on your system. The browser displays the image with a caption listing the image’s file type, pixel dimensions, file size,
and compression specifications in the first paragraph, and file name and other HTML information in the second
paragraph. You can add additional browsers to the menu, and specify which browser will be launched when using a
keyboard shortcut.
To add a browser
Do one of the following:
(Photoshop) Choose File  >  Save  For Web, and  then  choose  Edit  List  from  the Select Browser  menu  at  the bottom
of the dialog box. Click the Add button in the Browsers dialog box.
(ImageReady) Choose File > Preview In > Edit Browser List. Click the Add button in the Edit Browsers List dialog
box.
In the Preview In Other Browser dialog box, navigate to the browser application on your computer, and then click
the Open button. The browser name appears in the Browsers dialog box.
