SIP Timer Setting
SIP timers define transaction expiration timers, retransmission intervals when UDP is used as a transport, and
the lifetime of dynamic TCP connections. The retransmission and expiration timers correspond to the timers
defined in RFC 3261.
Figure 15. SIP Timer Setting
Basic Timer
Description
Round Trip Time
Estimate (T1)
Estimated time it takes for a packet to make
a round trip from the device to the far end
and back.
Max Retransmit
Interval (T2)
The maximum retransmit interval for non-
INVITE requests and INVITE responses.
Invite Retry Times
The maximum number of times the device
will send an INVITE if no response is received
to the initial INVITE.
Non Invite Retry
Times
The maximum number of times that a SIP
message other than an INVITE request gets
retransmitted. According to RFC3261, Non-
INVITE requests are retransmitted at an
interval which starts at T1 and doubles until
it hits T2, and then repeats at interval T2.
Register Expiration
Time
Time to wait after a registration before it
expires.
Generic SIP version: If the timer is set to
be x seconds, the MTA re-registers at
90% of the expiration time (e.g., x*0.9
seconds).
