Principles of Operation
This product uses a catalytic gas
reaction system. The special
catalyst contained in the tip is
preheated with a butane flame.
The preheated flame is
extinguished when the shutter is
closed over the ignition vent.
Butane gas continues to flow over the preheated catalyst generating infrared
heat which is either conducted through the soldering iron tip or passed through
the heat tip as hot gas.
Fill with Ultratane
Butane
Use only Master Ultratane butane with your Ultratorch.
Do not fill gas or store near open flame, heater, furnace or
combustible materials. Make sure the unit is cool before
re-fueling. Fill gas holding the unit firmly with the refill
nozzle pointed upwards and press down. Gas will overflow
from nozzle when tank is full.
Ignition Instructions
1. Be sure the exhaust opening is positioned upward. Keep hands and
combustibles clear of exhaust opening and tip housing to avoid burns
or fire.
2. Set the gas Control lever in the middle of the + and -. (In cold places
or soon after refueling, move lever towards + and in hot, towards -.
3. Push the ignition lever upward slowly until it clicks. After several
seconds, the window becomes red and the catalyst starts to react
without a flame inside. If the unit did not ignite, push the OFF button
and repeat.
4. Adjust tip temperature with the gas control lever.
5. To turn off, push GAS OFF BUTTON. Check window to make sure the
unit is off.
Use as a Soldering Iron or Heat Tool
1. Loosen knurled nut to remove tip and tip housing.
2. Replace with soldering tip or hotblow tip and re-install tip housing
onto unit.
DO NOT TRY TO IGNITE WHEN SOLDERING OR HEAT TIP IS
DISMOUNTED. THIS COULD LEAD TO AN IGNITION PROBLEM.
To Replace Ejector
Change ejector unit when gas does not flow, ceramic burner is broken or
used up after a certain amount of time, etc.
TO REMOVE
1. Remove a soldering/heat tip by
loosening the knurled nut.
2. Insert a bar into the hole on the
ejector and turn clockwise. The
ejector unit will come away.
(fig 2)
TO REMOUNT
1. Replace with new ejector unit
and insert a bar in the hole on
ejector and turn counter-clock-
wise to tighten.
2. Replace a tip and tighten the
knurled nut. (fig 3)
Storage of Your Ultratorch Heat Tool
1. Allow unit to cool and put protective cap on for storage.
2. If your unit is not going to be used for awhile, store in the following
manner. Store in proper location avoiding elevated temperatures and
away from children.
3. Leave tank approximately 1/2 full so lubrication of fuel pickup filter
stays wet.
4. Set flow control valve at mid setting.
