Music Formats Supported
Sony dedicated Walkmans and the supplied
SonicStage CP (v4.0) software supports a wide
range of today’s most popular audio file formats.ˇ
These include MP3, WMA, AAC and ATRAC.
All current flash Walkman support these formats
natively, meaning that there is no conversion
needed to transfer these music files onto the
Walkman. This makes it easy for anyone who
already has a collection of music to transfer and
enjoy them without any hassles.
ATRAC (Adaptive Transform
Acoustic Coding)
ATRAC is an advanced form of audio
compression that utilizes a more efficient audio
encoding process to deliver superior quality
audio at very high compression levels. It was
specifically designed for use in portable audio
players in light or the requirements for longer
battery life and limited file spaces for
song storage.
AAC (Advanced Audio Coding)
AAC is the latest addition to the family of
Walkman-supported formats. It was designed
as the successor to the popular MP3 format and
is a widely accepted format amongst key digital
audio players today. It was co-developed by
major companies including Dolby, Fraunhofer,
AT&T, Nokia and of course Sony.
Organic EL Display
The Organic EL (Electro
Luminescent) Display is a
technology that utilises an organic
compound layer in the screen to
deliver a sharper display that is
easy on the eyes. The organic layer
generates its own light so there
is no need for a backlight, which
would consume more power.
In summary, users get improved
visual clarity and battery
performance.
Rapid Recharge
Rapid Recharge is a feature that allows the user to gain up to 3 hours of
battery power, after only charging the Walkman for 3 minutes!
Should a user forget to charge their battery, all they need to do is charge
their Walkman for a few minutes and they will have enough power to last
them for a workout at the gym, travel to work, or even an interstate trip.
Rapid Recharge is
available on ALL dedicated
Flash Walkmans.
Noise-Cancelling
Noise is a factor in many of our lifestyles.
We hear it in the engine noise of a bus or a
plane and even in places such as shopping
malls and parks where all sorts of sounds mix.
This background noise can interfere with your
audio enjoyment and can still come through
even a great set of headphones.
For this reason Sony offer headphones with
‘Noise-Cancelling’ technology. This means that
the headphones have microphones built-in to
them that can pick up ambient noise and output
a signal that effectively ‘neutralises’ or ‘cancels’
the noise out. Depending on the degree of
cancellation, you can have up to 80% of
ambient background noise cut out!
This removes more unwanted sounds, and allows
more pure music to reach your ears instead.
In addition to noise-cancelling headphones,
the new S700 series Walkmans have noise-
cancelling technology† built-in as well, making
both these devices perfect for those who are
serious about sound or simply just want to cut
the clutter.
† Noise cancelling function reduces the ambient noise by up
to 75%. It does not cancel all ambient noise.
