Noise or sound distorted on AM or
FM broadcasts.

Station not tuned properly for AM
or FM

Retune the AM or FM broadcast
station.

Volume at minimum

Increase Volume.

No sound.

FM : Antenna is not extended.

RADIO position.

AM or FM, no sound.

Set FUNCTION Selector to RADIO
position.

AM : Unit is not positioned
correctly.

Rotate unit until best reception is
obtained.

Tape old or worn.

Extend FM antenna.

Sound distorted.

Dirty Record/Play head.

Will not record.

TAPE position.

Dirty roller and capstan.

Replace the tape.

Clean roller and capstan.

Clean the Record/Play head.

Set FUNCTION selector to TAPE
position.

Cover hole with tape

Defective tape or dirty tapehead.

Press prevention tab removed

Distorted sound on playback.

Replace tape or clean tape head.
