Business Continuity
is Key to Success
In an increasingly competitive business
environment, the availability of information
often makes the difference between success
and failure. Unfortunately, all the planning
and maintenance in the world cannot prevent
an application or server from crashing.
Statistics show that it is not a question of
if systems will fail, but when. Such failures
can shut down a production infrastructure
and your business. System downtime all too
often results in lost business opportunities,
dissatisfied customers and damage to your
company’s reputation. In today’s time-critical,
web-enabled marketplace, it is imperative
that critical business continues uninterrupted.
24 x 7 Data, Application
and Server Availability
BrightStor High Availability from Computer
Associates International, Inc. (CA) enables
continuous business operations and is a
necessary component of any data protection
and availability plan. Once critical data and
applications are defined through the setup
wizard, they are automatically replicated to
a secondary server in real time. This replication
occurs continuously as changes and updates
occur, providing the secondary server with
all the critical information in case the primary
server suffers catastrophic damage.
BrightStor High Availability can automatically
detect services and server failures, and
instantly switch end users to the secondary
server, whether that server is local or remote.
The secondary server assumes the complete
identity of the primary server — including
its host name and IP address — as well as
continuing to process its normal workload.
The entire failover process occurs in real
time and is completely transparent to the
end users.
BrightStor High Availability offers the
following benefits:
• High Scalability and Flexibility. BrightStor
High Availability scales to support
networks of any size. It runs on any
networked Windows 2000 or Windows
Server 2003 Server and does not require
any special hardware, network cards or
unique configurations. As your organization
grows, protection can be extended to
additional primary servers at any time.
• Efficient, Cost-Effective Protection.
Multiple primary servers can replicate to
a single secondary server, offering more
efficient use of available resources. The
primary and secondary servers need not
be identical and can be located anywhere
in the network.
• Complete Out-of-the-Box Protection.
BrightStor High Availability includes built-in
support wizards for popular applications
that users continually access, including
databases, groupware and web-based
applications. If BrightStor High Availability
detects a potential failure, it can seek
confirmation by checking an optional serial
port link between the primary and secondary
servers, and by “pinging” selected network
machines or devices.

High Availability protects mission-critical data and applications in
Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 environments by replicating them to a
local or remote secondary server. Data is synchronized between the two servers
in real time with patented technology that maximizes data and transactional
integrity while optimizing performance and availability. In the event of an application
or server failure, BrightStor High Availability provides users with nonstop access
to data and applications without significantly increasing the IT budget.
