Information on installing and operating
Gigaset WLAN adapters on PCs running Windows Vista
When connecting PCs running the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system to your
wireless network, there are some differences to note compared with other Windows
operating systems when it comes to installing and operating a Gigaset WLAN adapter
(Gigaset PC Card, Gigaset USB Adapter or Gigaset USB Stick). These differences are
described below.
Microsoft and Windows Vista are registered trademarks of the Microsoft Corporation.
Installation
Start the installation as described in the user manual for your Gigaset WLAN adapter.
Once the WLAN adapter has been plugged in to the PC, the installation continues
automatically. The operating system's automatic hardware recognition function opens
in order to install the drivers for the device.
If there is a more recent driver for the Gigaset WLAN adapter on your PC, an appropriate
message window will be displayed. You can then decide which driver you want to use.
ì
Click Yes to use this driver (recommended).
Click No to overwrite it with the driver from the Gigaset CD.
ì
Select the option Finish in the next window to close the hardware installation
wizard.
ì
If a window appears prompting you to restart the PC, choose this option and click
Finish.
The installation will then conclude.
Operation
Gigaset WLAN adapters are supplied with the Gigaset WLAN Adapter Monitor. You can
use this monitor to configure the device and monitor WLAN operation. You will find a
detailed description in the user manual for your device.
The following differences should be noted for Windows Vista:
Automatically setting the channel
The radio channel used to establish communication with the connection partners is
set automatically both in Infrastructure mode and in Ad Hoc mode. The channel
used is displayed on the configuration page.
