Before installing the Model 5782 VNR in the chassis, you must:

•

Assemble the required tools and materials.

•

Install the flash memory card.

To install the Model 5782 VNR, you need the following tools and equipment: 

•

Medium flat-tip screwdriver

•

Grounded antistatic mat and wrist strap

The Model 5782 VNR uses a flash memory card to provide storage for the router 
nonvolatile file system (NVFS). When you remove a formatted memory card, the 
NVFS removes access to the card. When you insert and format a card (or insert a 
formatted card), the NVFS automatically provides access to the card.

Before you install the Model 5782 module in the chassis for the first time, you 
should install a flash memory card. The router needs a flash memory card with a 
valid boot image and configuration file in order to boot. After the router boots and 
is running, you can remove the card or install another one.

You need only one flash memory card for any number of routers in a chassis with 
a PPX backplane. Additional routers can use the image and configuration files on 
the card. If you install more than one flash memory card for redundancy, make 
sure that the version of the software and the configuration files are the same on all 
cards.

Electrostatic discharge can damage printed circuit boards and 

electronic components. To prevent damage from electrostatic discharge, place 
each module on a grounded antistatic mat until you are ready to install it. If 
you do not have an antistatic mat, attach an antistatic wrist strap before 
touching any module.
