North American ISDN Information
The Nautica 250 is capable in most cases of automatically
detecting the configuration of a Basic Rate ISDN line, given the
area code and phone numbers associated with the line.  However,
if the line is non-standard it may be necessary to configure the
device with the following information:
The type of line: National ISDN (the standard); AT&T
(Lucent) Custom Point-to-Point; or AT&T (Lucent) Custom
Multi-point.
The Service Profile Identifier(s), or SPIDs, associated with
the  line.
The local 7-digit telephone number(s) associated with the
line.
When ordering a new Basic Rate ISDN line, you will be assigned
two telephone numbers by your phone company, and the line type
will be National ISDN, unless you ask otherwise.  In addition to
the capability of sending both voice and data over the line, your
phone company may also ask you whether you want to order
additional services, such as Caller Id, Call Forwarding and Call
Waiting, which are normally additional cost items.  If you want
such supplementary services, you may order a service package
known as EZ-ISDN 1, which incorporates them.
If you want to send data long distance, you will most probably
have to tell your long distance phone company in addition to your
local phone company, and you will normally be billed separately
for "Switched Digital Services" (SDS).  SDS guarantees that you
will get a 64 kbps per channel connection from end to end for
your data calls (although in some cases this may be limited to 56
kbps, particularly on international circuits).  Note that SDS calls
are usually significantly more expensive than the equivalent long
distance voice calls made using the same ISDN line.
Note:
You do not need to configure the SPIDs or local
telephone numbers if the line is AT&T Custom Point-to-Point.
