310 Configuring WSSs Remotely
NN47250-102 (320666-G Version 02.01)

Someone at the remote office where the switch is delivered physically installs the switch by
connecting port 1 to the network. If the switch will manage a directly connected AP, the AP
needs to be physically installed and connected by an Ethernet cable to port 2. If Distributed APs
will be managed, these also must be physically installed, connected to the network by Ethernet
cables, and connected to Power over Ethernet (PoE) sources.

The person at the remote office powers on the 2350, and inserts a paperclip or similar object
into the 2350’s factory reset hole to press the factory reset switch and then power on the

Because the factory reset switch was pressed while the switch was starting, the2350 configures
the following items, to enable itself to contact WLAN Management Software Services:
the following items, to enable itself to contact WLAN Management Software Services:
•
Ports 1 and 2 in the default VLAN (VLAN 1)
•
DHCP client on VLAN 1 enabled

The 2350 uses the DHCP client to obtain an IP configuration from a local DHCP server. After
obtaining an IP configuration, the switch sends a DNS query for the IP address of well-known
hostname wlan-config-srv.

WLAN Management Software receives the configuration request, and looks in the currently
selected network plan for a 2350 configuration with the same serial number as the one in the

Note.
Drop ship configuration requires a DHCP server at the remote office. The
2350 uses the DHCP server to obtain an IP configuration in order to communicate
with WLAN Management Software Services in the corporate network. The drop
ship option also requires an entry in the local DNS server that maps the hostname
wlan-config-srv to the IP address of the host where WLAN Management Software
Services are installed.
