Management Features
You can configure and manage the Versalar 15000 from any node on the network
or, remotely, over a dial-up connection. Configuring Management and
Differentiated Services for the Versalar Switch Router 15000
describes how to
customize your configuration; this guide describes the system management
functions in more detail.
The Versalar 15000 provides the following management options:
A centralized command-line application, known as the Bay Command
Console (BCC)
Advanced capabilities for accounting, performance monitoring and
troubleshooting, and fault management
A packet capture management facility on all interfaces
Each of these management features is described in more detail in the sections that
follow.
BCC
The BCC provides an integrated collection of tools for configuring, monitoring,
and debugging a network device. You can access the BCC through Telnet, a
dial-up connection, or a direct terminal connection.
Using the BCC, you can perform the following tasks:
Manage NVFS files on the Versalar 15000. (See Chapter 2, “Managing
Files.”
)
Manage the events log. (See Chapter 4, “Managing Events.”)
Perform system administration tasks, such as booting the Versalar 15000,
restarting and resetting slots, and verifying and upgrading software. (See
Chapter 5, “Managing the Versalar 15000.”)
Accounting
Service providers must validate that a contracted service level is actually
being delivered for each customer. Additionally, providers need to audit
service usage for accounting purposes and traffic engineering.
