The BCC provides the following commands for booting:

•

The 

 command warm-starts the entire system. Pressing the Reset button 

on the front panel of the router initiates the same procedure. 

You can override the default router software image and configuration by 
specifying an alternative router software image and an alternative 
configuration file when entering the 

 command.

•

The 

 command warm-starts an SSP or IFP card, or the entire system. If 

there is only one SSP or if you reset both SSPs, the default router software 
image and configuration will be used. If there are two SSPs and you reset one, 
the current router software image and configuration will be used. Issuing the 

 command with no arguments resets the entire router.

This section describes how each SSP card obtains its router software image and 
configuration when you do not override the default router software image (for 
example, v15k.exe) and configuration file (config).

You do not override these files when you:

•

Cycle the power on the router.

•

Hot-swap a card.

•

Issue the 

 command.

•

Issue the 

 command without specifying file names.

A cold start occurs when you cycle the power on the router. The SSP executes card 
diagnostics and when diagnostics complete successfully, the SSP boots.

A warm start occurs either when you issue a 

 command or when you issue a 

 command to both SSPs. The SSP boots without running diagnostics.   

If you issue a 

 to the primary SSP in a system with a redundant 

SSP, control will fail over to the secondary SSP, and the primary SSP will 
reset. The ‘ex-secondary SSP’ is now the primary SSP.
