Bernalillo County Chooses a Comprehensive HP Solution
for server upgrades, server consolidation, storage and the ERP project, Bernalillo
County chose an end-to-end HP solution, consisting of an HP BladeSystem
p-Class Enclosure; HP Integrity BL60 Server Blades with HP-UX 11i v2 and HP
Integrity Virtual Machines; an HP BladeSystem c-Class Enclosure containing four
ProLiant BL685c Server Blades running VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3; HP Class
9000 rp3410 Servers running HP-UX 11.00 through 11.23; HP ProLiant dL380
Servers; HP Integrated Lights Out (iLO); HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM);
multiple HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays (EVAs), including an
EVA3000, an EVA4000, and an EVA6000; HP StorageWorks Business Copy
EVA Software; and HP P24 Proactive System Support.
The county considered solutions from IBM, dell, and HP. It chose HP hardware
and software because the HP solutions are clearly superior to the competi-
tion, offer a richer feature set, and are backed by HP service and support. Mike
Gruen, Bernalillo County IT Project Manager, says he chose HP because, “I’ve
worked with HP for years before I came to the county, and I’ve always been
impressed with the performance and reliability of HP systems, and with the
service and support I’ve always gotten from HP and their partners.”
Implementation went smoothly, aided by the high level of technical support
and personal attention provided by the county’s HP enterprise channel partner,
Abba Technologies. Employee-owned and New Mexico-based, Abba has been
increasing its investment in HP expertise since late 2003, and is highly certified
in its core practices of storage, networking and server consolidation professional
service. As Bernalillo County has rolled out innovative solutions to its users,
Abba has been a close partner, sharing design advice, implementation assistance,
and after-hours response.
Bottom Line Benefits for Bernalillo County
As a result of the solution, Bernalillo County has improved the reliability of its
applications, consolidated servers, reduced costs, cut maintenance costs,
simplified server maintenance, and can deploy new servers far more quickly.
By migrating from the mainframe, it will improve performance, and increase
application simplicity and flexibility. The new EVA storage gives the county a
more flexible storage infrastructure, and will lead to a projected, cumulative
five-year net benefit of $2,223,044.
 The HP BladeSystem with
Integrity Server Blades is an ideal
solution for consolidating our
servers, and give us a great deal
of flexibility. We have saved on
power and cooling costs, licens-
ing costs, and deployment costs.
More important, we can deploy
new services far more quickly.
Application performance has
improved as well.
