Managing Files and Applications      55
This is the Internet version of the user guide. © Print only for private use.
You can launch many File Manager operations
from
Tools > Control panel > Other
.
Sharing data with other devices
Your phone creates its own folder structure on
the Memory Stick™. Other devices must
access the same folder structure to interact
with your phone files. On a computer, you can
browse to the required folder on the Memory
Stick™. With a device that does not allow you
to browse folders (for example, a camera), you
use File Manager to put the required file into a
folder accessible by that device.
Launching media files
You can launch media files directly from File
Manager by selecting them.
Renaming a Memory Stick™
Give a more meaningful name to a Memory
Stick™ by renaming it. The new name will be
displayed in the Folders menu. Select
Tools >
File Manager > More > Device > Format
Memory Stick™ > Rename
.
Formatting a Memory Stick™
New Memory Sticks are normally formatted
the first time you insert them into a phone.
Note: Do not remove a Memory Stick™
during formatting, which may take some time.
Select
Tools > File Manager > More > Device
> Format Memory Stick™ > Format
.
Note: All information on the Memory Stick™
will be deleted during formatting.
Installing Applications
You can install two types of applications on
your phone:
Applications specifically intended for
your phone or compatible with the
Symbian operating system. These
installation files have the extension .SIS.
Java®

applications compatible with the
Symbian operating system. These
installation files have the extension .jar or
.jad.
Install an application by selecting
Tools > File
Manager > More > Device > Install
. Select the
required application, then choose
Details
 to
view information about its certificate. If the
signature is verified, select
Install
, then follow
the instructions. The application will be
installed into the
Tools
 folder. If you prefer,
you can move it to another folder.
Note: Only install applications for which you
can verify the vendor identity and file integrity.
To ensure that a certificate has not been
revoked, select
Security
, mark
Enable

URL address

where the certificate can be checked.
