Features
• On the Cutting Edge: Support for Scientific-Atlanta’s CableCARD
™
module—
Many manufacturers of consumer electronics plan to introduce the next generation of
digital televisions (DTVs) in the near future. With these DTVs, consumers can use a
CableCARD module rather than a set-top box to receive encrypted digital cable
services. You may have previously heard this device referred to as a Point of
Deployment module or POD.

• DNCS Makeover: A New Look for a New Feature — The user interfaces for the
new CableCARD module continue the migration to the new Web-based design for
the DNCS. The Web-based design provides an attractive look and feel, but it is much
more than a pretty face. DNCS operators now have the freedom to perform critical
tasks away from the headend. For example, DNCS operators can launch the
CableCARD module user interfaces from any browser interface that communicates
with the DNCS.

• Community Service is Key: Support for New EAS Codes — Due to recent events
in this country, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted a
Report and Order amending the Emergency Alert System (EAS) rules. The
amendment includes several new EAS event and location codes. For example, the
amendment includes a new Child Abduction Emergency event code that may be
used to activate Amber Alerts. SR 2.2 supports the addition of these new event and
location codes. New EAS equipment installed by cable operators after February 1,
2004, must be able to receive and transmit the new codes.
