Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart 
do not solve the problem, refer to the “Customer Services Directory” on page 51 if you reside in the U.S.A., or refer to the “Product information” on 
Backcover if you reside in Canada.

≥The program was copy-protected.
≥The HDD or disc may be full.

≥You inserted an incompatible disc (Discs recorded in PAL video etc.).

≥The disc may be dirty or scratched.

≥Create space by erasing any unnecessary titles. [HDD] [RAM]
≥Use a new disc. [RAM] [DVD-R]

≥Press [ENTER] to start recovery process. You cannot operate the unit while it is recovering 

(“SELF CHECK” appears on the unit’s display).

≥The disc may be upside down.

≥There may be a problem with the disc. Press [< OPEN/CLOSE] on the main unit to 

remove it and check it for scratches or dirt. (The unit turns off automatically after you open 
the tray.)

≥The unit cannot record on the disc you inserted. Insert a DVD-RAM or unfinalized DVD-R.
≥You inserted an unformatted DVD-RAM. Format the disc with this unit.

≥The operation is prohibited by the unit or disc.



≥The remote control and main unit are using different codes. Change the code on the 

remote control.

Press and hold [ENTER] and the indicated number button at 
the same time for more than 2 seconds.

≥If there is no change after turning the unit on and off, consult the dealer where the unit was 

purchased.

≥In order to extend HDD life, the HDD is in SLEEP mode. Press [HDD] to activate.

≥The disc is dirty or badly scratched. The unit cannot record, play, or edit.
≥You have used a DVD-RAM/PD lens cleaner and it has finished. Press [< OPEN/CLOSE] 

on the main unit to eject the disc.

≥Displayed when the unit is started. This is not a malfunction.

≥There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit 

is carrying out its recovery process. Wait until the message disappears. 

≥You have inserted a disc the unit cannot play or record on.
≥The signal input into the L1 OPTICAL IN terminal is not Dolby Digital or Linear PCM.

≥The unit is hot.

The unit switches to standby for safety reasons. Wait for about 30 minutes until the 
message disappears.
Select a position with good ventilation when installing the unit. Do not block the cooling fan 
on the rear of the unit.

≥The unit fails to operate properly. Press [POWER Í/I] on the main unit to switch the unit to 

standby. Now press [POWER

Í/I] on the main unit again to turn the unit on.

≥Check and correct the speaker cord connections.

If this does not fix the problem, there is a power supply problem. Consult the dealer.

≥There is no signal input to the L1 OPTICAL IN terminal.

➡Make sure to check the connections and if the power of the connected equipment is 

turned on.

≥Regular disc rotating sounds. The sound of disc rotating may 

become louder especially when finalizing a DVD-R.

≥Poor reception due to atmospheric conditions.
≥Image disturbance during search.

≥Interruptions to reception due to periodic satellite broadcasting 

breaks.

≥A sound is heard when the HDD goes into the SLEEP mode, or 

operations are slow to respond in SLEEP mode.

≥Insert the AC power supply cord and system cable securely.

≥This is a power saving feature. Change “Off Timer” in the SETUP menu, if you would prefer.
≥One of the unit’s safety devices is activated. Press [POWER Í/I] on the main unit to turn the unit on.
