FO R YO UR SAFETY READ BEFO RE LIG HTING
W ARNING :
If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion m ay result causing
property dam age, personal injury or loss of life.
A. This appliance has a pilot, w hich m ust be lighted by hand. W hen lighting the pilot, follow these
instructions exactly. To save energy, turn the pilot off w hen not using the appliance.
B. BEFORE LIG HTING sm ell all around the appliance area for gas. Be sure to sm ell next to the floor
because som e gas is heavier than air and w ill settle on the floor.
W HAT TO DO IF YO U SM ELL G AS
•
Do not try to light any appliance.
•
Do not touch any electric sw itch; do not use any phone in your building.
•
Im m ediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s
instructions.
•
If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire departm ent.
C. Use only your hand to push in or turn the control knobs. Never use tools. If the controls w ill not
push in or turn by hand, don’t try to repair them , call a qualified service technician. Force or
attem pted repair m ay result in a fire or explosion.
D. Do not use this appliance if any part has been under w ater. Im m ediately call a qualified service
technician to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the control system and any gas
control, w hich has been under w ater.
LIG HTING INSTRUCTIO NS
1. STO P! Read the safety inform ation above.
2. Set the flam e adjustm ent knob as far
clockw ise as possible

3. Turn the gas control knob clockw ise to O FF.
NO TE: The knob cannot be turned from PILO T to
O FF unless it is pushed in partially. Do not force.
4. W ait five (5) m inutes to clear out any gas, then
sm ell for gas, including near the floor. If you
sm ell gas, STO P! Follow “B” in the safety
inform ation above. If you don’t sm ell gas, go to
the next step.
5. Find the pilot. It is at the left side of the firebox
view ed through slotted hole in front log.
6. Push in and turn the gas control knob counterclockw ise until resistance is felt just before the
“IG N” position.
7. Keep pushed in for a few seconds to allow gas to flow then, keeping knob depressed, turn to
“PILO T” to light pilot. H old knob in for a further 5 seconds then release. The knob should pop
back out. Pilot should rem ain lit. If pilot goes out repeat steps 3 through 7.

If knob does not pop out w hen released, stop and im m ediately call your service technician or
gas supplier.

If pilot lights but w ill not stay lit after several tries, turn the gas control knob to “OFF” and call
your service technician or gas supplier.
8. W hen pilot is lit, partially depress the knob and turn to “ON” position (Burner alight).

Do not leave knob set betw een “PILOT” and “ON”.
9. Set the flam e height to desired setting

1. Set the flam e adjustm ent knob as far clockw ise as possible

2. Push in gas control knob slightly and turn clockw ise to “OFF”. Do not force.

The flam e height can be increased or decreased by depressing the rem ote control hand set
button.
