Make sure that the flexible antenna is attached to the radio.  Ensure that the radio is turned 

OFF anytime that the antenna is not connected.
Installing the antenna: 

1. Screw the antenna in a clockwise motion until it is securely locked into place.

2. Unscrew the antenna in a anti-clockwise motion until it is removed (as illustrated below).

Note: Do not operate the radio or press PTT key without the antenna being installed.
