LIGHTING THE PILOT
The following procedure should be closely followed when
lighting the Automatic Pilot:
1.
Set the room thermostat to the lowest setting on the
dial.
2.
Make certain that the main gas supply cock and the
pilot gas cock have been closed for at least five
minutes to permit the combustion chamber to vent
itself.
3.
Open the pilot gas cock.
4.
Light the pilot with a match supported on the end of a
wire or stick long enough to avoid putting your arm or
hand inside the combustion chamber.
5.
After the pilot flame is burning, open the main gas
supply cock.
6.
The main burner ignites when the room thermostat is
set to a temperature above that which exists in the
room at that particular instant. As doing this closes the
contacts of the thermostat, the circuit is completed to
the gas valve.
1.
While the main burner is operating, close the pilot
gas cock and the main gas cock, shutting off the gas
to both the pilot and the main burner.
2.
Within 60 seconds, a slight sound should be noted
which will indicate that the gas valve supplying the
main burner is closed. The thermostat and limit con-
trol contacts must be closed during this test.
3.
After a wait of about five minutes, relight the pilot
according to the instructions listed under “Lighting the
Pilot”. Within 90 seconds another slight sound will be
heard, indicating that the gas valve supplying gas to
the main burner is energized.
4.
Open the main gas cock once again.
