Connecting Your Primary Telephone
The Basic Rate ISDN line, required for using the Express 3000, in-
cludes two ISDN phone numbers (see alsoOrdering a Basic Rate ISDN 
Line
 on page 1-4)
. The Express 3000 allocates ISDN phone number 1 to 
POTS port 1. Connect your primary telephone (the one you use to talk 
to people) to POTS port 1 (see Figure 2-5).
Shared Port for Analog Devices
ISDN phone number 2 is shared by the EIA-232 port and the POTS 
port 2; therefore, you cannot use both ports at the same time. For ex-
ample, you can’t use a FAX machine connected to POTS port 2 at the 
same time you are using the Express 3000 for, say, Internet access.
ISDN data calls and external modem applications must be 
placed to ISDN phone number 2, so provide this number as 
your FAX number, etc.
