Assigning an IP Address to the Print Server
Receiving an IP
Address with DHCP
If you have a DHCP server on your network, your print server will
receive an IP address automatically. The IP address will then appear on
the
test page you print by pressing the test button once.
If you are not working in a DHCP network, you need to set the IP
address of the print server manually.
Notes:
Important:
Methods for Setting
the IP Address
You can obtain an IP address for your AXIS 5500/AXIS 5550 by using
one of the following methods, depending on your network operating
environment.
management.
Automatic IP Address
Assignment
• You need root privileges on your UNIX, Linux and Mac OS X system, or administrator priv-
ileges on a Windows NT server to set the IP address using RARP, BOOTP, DHCP and to add
an entry to the ARP table with the command 'arp -s'.
• You need to know the Ethernet address of your AXIS 5500/AXIS 5550 in order to assign
an IP address to it. The Ethernet address is based upon the serial number of your print
server
. This means, for example, that an AXIS 5500/AXIS 5550 with the serial number of
00408C100086, will have the corresponding Ethernet address of 00 40 8C 10 00 86. The
serial number is located on the bottom label of the print server
• Unless you are assigning an IP address using DHCP or Auto-IP, you must obtain an
unused IP address from your network administrator.
DO NOT use the IP addresses from the examples described here. Consult your network
administrator before assigning an IP address to your print server.
