chassis, b end  at the kn ees, n ot at the waist, to reduce the strain on your lower back muscles. 

Always disco nnect all external cables before liftin g o r moving  the ch assis.

The following  too ls and equipment are required to install th e chass is:

Number 1, number 2 Phillips, and  3/1 6-inch flat-blad e screwdriver

Antistatic mat or antis tatic foam

Your own  ESD  gro unding  strap o r  the d isposable ESD s trap  inclu ded  with  the  system

Follow these steps to install th e Catalyst 490 0M switch in a fo ur-post rack. 

Prepare fo r installatio n: 

Place the chassis on the floor o r on a sturdy table as clos e as po ssible to  the rack. Leave enough  
clearan ce  to allow  yo u to  move  around  th e  ch assis .

Use  a tape measure to  measure th e d epth  of th e rack. Measu re from the outsid e of the front mo unting 
p osts to the outsid e of the rear mou nting strip. The fo ur-post rack depth mus t be at least 1 9.2 5 inch es 
(48.9 cm) but not more than  3 2.5  in ches (8 2.5 cm). If the 4-post rack depth is g reater than 
3 2.5 in ches (82 .5 cm), order and  u se the o ptional rack -moun t k it (C4900M-BKTS-KIT=).

Measure th e  space between the inner edges of the left fro nt and right  front mou nting  posts to  en sure 
th at  it is  17 .7 5 in ches (4 5.0 9 cm) wide. (The chassis is 17.5 inch es [44.5 cm] wide and  must  fit 
b etween the mou nting posts.)
