This display pattern occurs after the system is 
powered down if the cache contains data that 
has not yet been written to the drives. Restore 
system power as soon as possible to prevent 
data loss. (A fully charged battery pack can 
preserve cached data for up to three days.)  
The life expectancy of a battery pack is 
typically three years or more, depending on the 
cache module size. For further information, see

Diagnostic tools 
Several diagnostic tools provide feedback about problems with arrays. The most important are:  
 
ADU 
This utility is available on both the SmartStart CD and the HP website (
The meanings of the various ADU error messages are provided in the HP Servers Troubleshooting 
Guide.
 
 
POST messages  
Smart Array controllers produce diagnostic error messages at reboot. Many of these POST messages 
are self-explanatory and suggest corrective actions. For more information about POST messages, 
refer to the HP Servers Troubleshooting Guide. 
 
Server Diagnostics 
To use Server Diagnostics:  
a.
 
Insert the SmartStart CD into the server CD-ROM drive.  
b.
 
Click Agree when the license agreement appears, and click the Maintenance tab. 
c.
 
Click Server Diagnostics, and follow the on-screen prompts and instructions.
