Check that the INPUT MODE is not set to 
“COAXIAL FIXED” for the sources from 
the OPTICAL input jack, nor set to 
“OPTICAL FIXED” for the sources from 
the COAXIAL input jack.
• Check that the MULTI CH IN function is 
not selected.
There is no sound when i.LINK is 
selected.
• Check that the i.LINK component is 
connected correctly.
• Check that using SCD-XA9000ES is set to 
output signals from the i.LINK jack.
• The sound may not output when you 
operate two or more players. In this case, 
stop the player, which is not selected, then 
select the player you want to play again by 
pressing the i.LINK button.
The source sound input from the HDMI 
jack is not output from an amplifier or 
the TV speaker connected to the 
receiver.
• Check the setting of HDMI AUDIO in the 
CUSTOMIZE menu (page 70).
• Check the HDMI connection.
• The sound is not output when you display 
the receiver’s menu on the TV monitor. 
Press ON SCREEN to turn off the display.
• You cannot listen to the Super Audio CD 
by connecting HDMI.
• Depending on the playback component, 
component side may need to be set up. 
Refer to the operating instructions 
supplied with the each component.
The left and right sounds are 
unbalanced or reversed.
• Check that the speakers and components 
are connected correctly and securely.
• Adjust the balance parameters using the 
LEVEL menu.
There is severe hum or noise.
• Check that the speakers and components 
are connected securely.
• Check that the connecting cords are away 
from a transformer or motor, and at least 3 
m (10 feet) away from a TV set or 
fluorescent light.
• Move your TV away from the audio 
components.
• Make sure you have grounded the U 
SIGNAL GND terminal (only when a 
turntable is connected).
• The plugs and jacks are dirty. Wipe them 
with a cloth slightly moistened with 
alcohol.
There is no sound from the center 
speaker.
• Make sure the sound field function is on 
(press A.F.D., MOVIE, or MUSIC).
• Select the CINEMA STUDIO EX mode 
• Adjust the speaker level (page 52).
• Make sure the center speaker is set to 
either “SMALL” or “LARGE” (page 49).
There is no sound, or only a very low-
level sound is heard from the surround/
surround back speakers.
• Make sure the sound field function is on 
(press A.F.D., MOVIE, or MUSIC).
• Select a CINEMA STUDIO EX mode 
• Adjust the speaker level (page 52).
• Make sure the surround speakers are set to 
either “SMALL” or “LARGE” (page 49).
There is no sound from the surround 
back speakers.
• Some discs have no Dolby Digital 
Surround EX flag even though the 
packages have Dolby Digital Surround EX 
logos. In this case, select “ON” (page 95).
There is no sound from the sub woofer.
• When all speakers are set to “LARGE” 
and “Neo:6 Cinema,” or “Neo:6 Music” is 
selected, there is no sound from the sub 
woofer.
The surround effect cannot be 
obtained.
• Make sure the sound field function is on 
(press A.F.D., MOVIE, or MUSIC).
