Exporting animation frames as files
Exporting animation frames as files
You can export and save animation frames as individual files in a variety of formats. In Photoshop, you can export
animation frames as files in PSD, BMP, JPEG, PDF, Targa, and TIFF formats. In ImageReady, you can export
animation frames as files in GIF, JPEG, PNG, WBMP, and SWF formats.
In ImageReady, you can assign different format settings to individual frames or one format to all exported frames.
Frames are named automatically as they are saved. You can set options to control the generation of names. All format
settings are saved with your ImageReady document for convenience when using the feature again.
To export animation frames as files in Photoshop
In the Animation palette, click the triangle to open the palette menu and choose Flatten Frames Into Layers.
In the Layers palette, make sure that only the layers created from animation frames are visible. If necessary, turn
off the visibility of the layers that were not created from the animation frames. This is important for exporting only
the animation frames.
Choose File > Scripts > Export Layers To Files.
In the Export Layers To Files dialog box, under Destination, click Browse to select a destination for the exported
files. By default, the generated files are saved in the same folder as the source file.
Enter a name in the File Name Prefix text box to specify a common name for the files.
Select the Visible Layers Only option to export layers that have visibility enabled in the Layers palette. Use this
option so that only the layers created from the animation frames are exported.
Choose a file format from the File Type menu. Set any options if necessary.
Select  the Include  ICC Profile  option  if  you want the  working space  profile embedded in the  exported  file. This is
important for color-managed workflows.
Click Run.
To export animation frames as files in ImageReady
Choose File > Export > Animation Frames as Files. If you’re exporting only specific frames, select the frames in
the Animation palette before you choose the Animation Frames As Files command.
Click a frame in the Animation palette to select it. Shift-click to select a series of frames. Ctrl-click (Windows) or
Command-click (Mac OS) to select noncontiguous frames.
In the Export Animation Frames As Files dialog box, under File Options, click Choose to select a destination for
the exported files.
Enter a name in the Base Name text box to specify a common name for the files.
Click the Set button to set up specific options for file naming. Elements include document name, frame number, file
creation date, punctuation, and file extension.
If you selected frames in the Animation palette before choosing the Animation Frames As Files command, you
can enable the Selected Frames Only option to export only the frames you selected. Deselecting this option exports
all the frames in your animation regardless of whether you selected them or not.
