On batteries
• Do not charge a dry battery.
• Do not carry the dry or

rechargeable batteries with coins
or other metallic objects. It can
generate heat if the positive and
negative terminals of the batteries
are accidentally contacted by a
metallic object.

• When you do not use the

Walkman for a long time, remove
the battery to avoid any damage
caused by battery leakage and
subsequent corrosion.

On the unit
• Do not drop the unit or give a

shock to the unit, or it may cause
a malfunction.

• Do not leave the unit in a location

near heat sources, or in a
place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or sand, moisture,
rain, mechanical shock, or in a car
with its windows closed.

• Do not wind the headphones/

earphones cord around the unit.
The buttons may be kept pressed,
causing unnecessary battery
usage.

• If the unit has not been used for

long, set it in the playback mode
and warm it up for a few minutes
before inserting a tape.

On water resistance
• Before opening or closing the

cassette holder, be sure to wipe
off water, dust or sand on the
exterior of the Walkman. (The
Walkman is not water-resistant
with the cassette holder open.)

• Since water in the headphones/

earphones jack may cause rust,
cover it with the attached rubber
cap when the headphones/
earphones are not in use.

• Since the Walkman is airtight,

you may not be able to open the
cassette holder because of
sudden change in air pressure
inside the Walkman, which
happens after being transported
on a plane or moving from a
warm place to a cold place. To
open the cassette holder, see
“Troubleshooting”.

• The supplied headphones/

earphones are not meant to be
immersed in water or come in
continuous contact with water. If
they are accidentally dropped
into water or get wet, dry them
with a soft cloth. Never use an
electric hair dryer.

• If the Walkman or the

headphones/earphones are
immersed in salt water, be sure to
wash them in non-running fresh
water. Never wash them under
running water, and never use
soap or detergent.

• Any sand or dust on the rubber

packing will prevent the cassette
holder from closing tightly, and
water may leak in. Brush off the
dust once in a while.

• We recommend the packing to be

changed every year. Replacement
packing is available at an
authorized Sony Service Facility.

On tapes longer than 90
minutes
We do not recommend the use of
tapes longer than 90 minutes except
for a long continuous playback.
They are very thin and tend to be
stretched easily.

Road safety
Do not use headphones/earphones
while driving, cycling, or operating
any motorized vehicle. It may
create a traffic hazard and is illegal
in some areas. It can also be
potentially dangerous to play your
headphones/earphones at high
volume while walking, especially at
pedestrian crossings.
You should exercise extreme
caution or discontinue use in
potentially hazardous situations.

Preventing hearing damage
Do not use headphones/earphones
at high volume. Hearing experts
advise against continuous, loud and
extended play. If you experience a
ringing in your ears, reduce the
volume or discontinue use.

Caring for others
Keep the volume at a moderate
level. This will allow you to hear
outside sounds and to be considerate
to the people around you.

The volume cannot be turned up.
•AVLS is set to LIMIT.

The sound is unstable or no
audio.
• Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries

properly.

• Replace all batteries if they are

weak.

• Set FUNCTION to TAPE.
• Insert a cassette.

No sound from the radio.
• Set FUNCTION to FM or AM and

turn TUNING.

The cassette holder cannot be
opened.
• Open the rubber cap, then open

the cassette holder. When the
cassette holder opens, remember
to close the rubber cap to prevent
intrusion of water.

Poor tape playback quality.
• Clean the headphones/earphones

plug.

•Dirty head. Clean the head and

tape path with a cotton swab
slightly moistened with cleaning
fluid or alcohol.

Sobre las pilas
• No cargue las pilas.
• No lleve las pilas con monedas ni

otros objetos metálicos.  Si los
terminales positivo y negativo de
las pilas se cortocircuitasen
accidentalmente con un objeto
metálico, se generaría calor.

• Cuando no vaya a utilizar el

Walkman durante mucho tiempo,
extráigale las pilas para evitar el
daño que podría causar el
electrólito de las mismas en caso
de fugarse.

Sobre la unidad
• No deje caer la unidad ni la

golpee, ya que podría provocar su
mal funcionamiento.

• No deje la unidad cerca de fuentes

térmicas, ni en un lugar sometido
a la luz solar directa, a polvo
excesivo, a arena, a la humedad, a
la lluvia, ni a golpes, ni en el
interior de un automóvil con las
ventanillas cerradas.

• No bobine el cable de los

auriculares con casco/auriculares
alrededor de la unidad. Las teclas
podrían quedar presionadas,
haciendo que las pilas se
descargasen innecesariamente.

• Cuando no haya utilizado la

unidad durante mucho tiempo,
póngala en el modo de
reproducción y deje que se
caliente durante algunos minutos
antes de insertarle un cassette.

Resistencia al agua
• Antes de abrir o cerrar el

portacassette, cerciórese de
limpiar el agua, el polvo, o la
arena del exterior del Walkman.
(El Walkman no será resistente al
agua con el portacassette abierto.)

• Como el agua en la toma de los

auriculases con casco/auriculares
puede causar la oxidación de la
misma, cúbrala con el tapón de
caucho fijado cuando no vaya a
utilizarlos.

• Como el Walkman es hermético,

es posible que no pueda abrir el
portacassette debido a un cambio
súbito en la presión de aire del
interior del Walkman, fenómeno
que se produce después de
haberlo transportado en un avión
o de haberlo trasladado de un
lugar cálido a otro frío. Para abrir
el portacassette, consulte
“Solución de problemas”.

• Los auriculares con casco/

auriculares no han sido diseñados
para sumergirse en el agua ni para
estar en contacto continuo con ella.
Si caen accidentalmente al agua o
se humedecen, séquelos con un
paño suave. No utilice nunca un
secador eléctrico para el pelo.

• Si ha sumergido el Walkman o los

auriculares con casco/auriculares
en agua salada, cerciórese de
lavarlos en agua dulce no
corriente. No los lave nunca con
agua corriente, y no utilice jabón
ni detergente.

• La arena o el polvo en la

empaquetadura de caucho evitará
que el portacassette se cierre
herméticamente, y hará que agua
se infiltre. Cepíllela de vez en
cuando.

• Le recomendamos cambiar la

empaquetadura de caucho
anualmente. Usted podrá adquirir
empaquetaduras de reemplazo en
su proveedor Sony.

Sobre las cintas de más de
90 minutos
No se recomienda la utilización de
cintas de más de 90 minutos
excepto para reproducción larga y
continua.  Estas cintas son muy
finas y tienden a estirarse
fácilmente.

Seguridad en la carretera
No utilice los auriculares con casco/
auriculares cuando conduzca, vaya
en bicicleta, o maneje cualquier
vehículo motorizado.  Esto podría
suponer un peligro para el tráfico, y
es ilegal en ciertas zonas.  También
puede resultar potencialmente
peligroso escuchar a través de los
auriculares con casco/auriculares a
gran volumen mientras camine,
especialmente en pasos cebra.  En
situaciones potencialmente
peligrosas, deberá tener mucho
cuidado o dejar de utilizar los
auriculares con casco/auriculares.

Cuidado de sus oídos
Evite utilizar los auriculares con
casco/auriculares a gran volumen.
Los expertos en oídos desaconsejan
la escucha prolongada a gran nivel.
Si experimenta un silbido en sus
oídos, reduzca el volumen o deje de
escuchar a través de los auriculares
con casco/auriculares.

Respeto a los demás
Mantenga el volumen a un nivel
moderado.  Esto le permitirá
escuchar los sonidos del exterior y
respetar a quienes se encuentren a
su alrededor.

El volumen no puede aumentarse.
•AVLS está ajustado a LIMIT.

El sonido es inestable o no se oye.
• Inserte adecuadamente dos pilas

R6 (tamaño AA).

• Si las pilas están débiles,

reemplácelas.

•Ponga FUNCTION en TAPE.
• Inserte un cassette.

No se oye sonido de la radio.
•Ponga FUNCTION en FM o AM y

gire TUNING.

El portacassette no puede abrirse.
• Abra el tapón de caucho y

después el portacassette. Cuando
abra portacassette, no se olvide de
cerrar el tapón de caucho para
evitar la intrusión de agua.

La calidad de reproducción de la
cinta es mala.
• Limpie la clavija de los auriculares

con casco/auriculares.

•La cabeza está sucia. Limpie la

cabeza y la trayectoria de la cinta
con un palillo de algodón
humedecido en líquido limpiador
o alcohol.
