4.4 Frequently Asked Questions
Q:  Does FOM-E1/T1 operate opposite FOM-40?
A:  No. The fiber optic interfaces of these modems are not compatible.
Q:  Can I connect FOM-E1/T1 with a balanced interface to FOM-E1/T1 with an
unbalanced interface?
A: Yes
Q:  What is the maximal distance between FOM-E1/T1 and end equipment (E1
link)?
A:  The FOM-E1/T1 output conforms to the G.703 standard: the coding is bipolar
±3V (CDP) with the maximum attenuation of 6 dB. This gives us a range of
approximately 300 meters for a balanced 24 AWG (0.5 mm) line. The range for
a coax cable is about 150 meters.
