Font Sets
As with Font Reserve Single User and most font managers, users can create sets of fonts for
their unique needs. Sets consist of logical groupings of fonts, representing client jobs, projects,
templates, etc. By grouping fonts into sets, you streamline the process of locating, activating,
and deactivating the fonts. You can even create a copy of a job’s fonts for a service bureau by
dragging its set to the desktop (assuming the workgroup has permission to export fonts from the
server). Sets allow you to organize and maintain fonts specific to certain clients or jobs.
Font Reserve Server enhances the use of sets by allowing users to share their sets with other users
in their workgroup. This feature is ideal for ensuring the correct fonts are used for producing each
job at a service bureau. When a job first comes into a shop, the operator adds the fonts to the
Production workgroup and creates a set containing all the fonts for that job. He or she gives the
set a unique job name so it’s easy to identify, then shares the set with the Production workgroup.
As the job moves from workstation to workstation, each operator can use the job’s font set,
thereby ensuring that the correct fonts are used with the job with a minimal amount of effort. In
addition, the Administrator can specify sets that are permanently active for an entire workgroup,
providing instant access to the most commonly used fonts.
Adding Fonts
Changes to the Font Reserve Server Database—such as adding fonts, deleting fonts, or
creating sets of fonts—occur in real-time for all users. Users who are connected to the Font
Reserve Server will automatically see the fonts and sets designated for their workgroup appear
as they are added and disappear as they are deleted. For example, here’s how fonts for an
output job might be handled:
