Users in all the workgroups benefit from features in the Client such as previewing fonts, creating
their own sets, and using the character map, regardless of their permissions. Meanwhile, actions
with problem-causing potential—such as adding or deleting fonts—can be carefully restricted.
User Access
To access fonts, users connect to Font Reserve Server through their Font Reserve Client
applications. Since the users’ names indicate which workgroups they are a member of and their
corresponding access and permissions, when the Client launches, they can access the fonts they
need. Font Reserve Server can be setup to connect automatically at system startup, so users don’t
have to manually connect to access fonts.
For additional flexibility, users can be members of more than one workgroup. If a user is a
member of both the Ad Creation and the Production workgroups, he or she can easily switch
between the two workgroups from within the Font Reserve Client. However, Font Reserve
Server ensures that while the user is in one workgroup, his or her access and permission levels
correspond to that workgroup. Therefore, while the user is in the Production workgroup, for
example, he or she may be able to add new fonts to the server, but when the user switches to the
Ad Creation workgroup, he or she may not able to add new fonts to the server.
Besides their member workgroups, the administrator can allow each user to have a personal
workgroup. This gives each user a “personal space” on the server to add and delete fonts
regardless of any other permissions or workgroups, preventing undesirable workarounds
such as dropping fonts in a System Fonts folder. The fonts added to a user’s personal
workgroup are seen only by that user—and the administrator—and cannot be seen or used
by anyone else in the company.
While the client-server technology of Font Reserve Server provides the control and management
capabilities needed by systems administrators in workgroup environments, it also provides
graphic designers and other users all the benefits of the Font Reserve Client. With the Client,
all users can:
•  Create sets of fonts for specific jobs
•  Activate and deactivate accessible fonts and sets
