In Mac OS X version 10.4 or earlier

From the Finder, navigate to:
Applications > Utilities

Double
‑click Printer Setup Utility or Print Center.

From the Printer List, click Add.

Click the Default Browser tab > More Printers.

From the first pop
‑up menu, select AppleTalk.
f
From the second pop
‑up menu, select Local AppleTalk Zone.

Select the printer from the list, and then click Add.
Setting up serial printing
In serial printing, data is transferred one bit at a time. Although serial printing is usually slower than parallel printing,
it is the preferred option when there is a great deal of distance between the printer and computer or when an interface
with a better transfer rate is not available.
After installing the serial or communication (COM) port, configure the printer and the computer so they can
communicate. Make sure you have connected the serial cable to the COM port on your printer.

Set the parameters in the printer:
a
From the printer control panel, navigate to the menu with port settings.

Locate the menu with serial port settings.
c
Make any necessary changes to the serial settings.

Save the new settings, and then print a menu settings page.

Install the printer driver:
a
Insert the Software and Documentation CD.
If the installation screen does not appear after a minute, then launch the CD manually::

Click 
, or click Start and then click Run.

In the Start Search or Run box, type D:\setup.exe, where D is the letter of the CD or DVD drive.

Press Enter, or click OK.

Click Advanced Options > Custom Install.

Follow the instructions on the computer screen

From the Configure Printer Connection dialog, select Connect through a port discovered on your computer,
and then select a port.

If the port is not in the list, then click Refresh.

Navigate to:
Add port > select a port type > enter necessary information > OK

Click Continue.

If you want to add another printer, then click Add Another.

If you want to make changes, then select a printer, and then click Edit.

Follow the instructions on the computer screen.
