Display Limitations of PC File Viewer
PC File Viewer is capable of displaying data produced by a wide variety of
applications. However, it does not fully replicate the functions of these applications,
and in some cases, the appearance of displayed data will differ from that produced
by the applications themselves. For example, PC File Viewer may use its own
display format for producing data layouts, formats, lines, and symbols.
Also, PC File Viewer is not capable of reproducing displays that result from special
character settings or formatting.
Some further display restrictions are imposed by limitations of the Windows CE
operating system.
Since OLE is not fully supported, data such as images and graphs embedded in
text or data will not be properly displayed.
Since Pocket Word does not provide a table function, table frames and data
layouts resulting from copying and pasting of tables cannot be properly
displayed.
Here are some examples of application data that cannot be properly displayed.
Databases
With dBase, objects whose data type is binary, memo, or OLE will be
displayed as the labels “(Binary Data)”, “(Memo File)”, or “(OLE Field)”, rather
than as objects.
PC File Viewer displays line numbers, column numbers, and field names
using its own standard format. For example, if the line numbers in the original
data are 3, 4, 7, and 8, PC File Viewer will display them as 1, 2, 3 and 4. Field
names are not displayed.
PC File Viewer does not support display of Paradox table files (.db files).
PC File Viewer does not support all of the numeric data types of Access.
Data that has been imported into Access by attachment may not be
displayed.
Documents
Headers and footers may not be displayed properly.
Footnote symbols and roman numerals are displayed as arabic numbers.
Depending on document size, a blank page may be displayed at the
beginning of documents.
Graphics
JPEG files encoded with progressive encoding are not supported.
Spread sheets
All Excel 97 sheet names become “Sheet 1,” “Sheet 2,” and so forth.
The date may not be displayed in the specified display format.
